8 Ways to Decorate Your Home and Business with Candy Canes

Categories

One of the sure fire signs that the holidays are just around the corner is the appearance of candy canes. Not too long ago, there was only one kind of candy cane. Red and white striped and peppermint flavored, these sweet treats were a great holiday treat.

Of course, candy canes were also used for decorations, mainly appearing on the season’s Christmas tree, to be eaten after presents were opened on the Big Morning. Today, the candy cane’s use goes far beyond just a snack – it has become an important decorating item – and its use goes way beyond the Christmas tree. Here’s a list of some of the best candy cane decorating ideas that we’ve come across.

1. Make a candy cane wreath. Take a break from the usual green boughs and red ribbons and put a candy cane wreath together for your front door, or the door to your office. The best candy canes for this are the little ones, which you can bunch and hook together to get that circle going! And of course, candy canes are a nice addition to a traditional wreath made with almost any materials.

2. Use candy canes as a centerpiece. The great thing about candy canes is that they are very colorful, and they can really spruce up a desk or table. Find a nice decorative jar and place a few candy canes in it as a centerpiece. Just make sure you have extras, because you’ll probably lose a few!

3. Spruce up the candy canes. Candy canes make great foundations for Christmas crafts; turn them into reindeer with a pipe cleaner, some felt, glue, and googly eyes and put them just about anywhere!

4. Make a garland for the tree. You don’t have to limit your candy cane tree decorations to hanging them from the boughs. With some ribbon and a few dozen candy canes, you’ve got a great garland to wrap around the tree.

5. “Santa’s sleigh” gingerbread decoration. Candy canes are the perfect shape for the rails on a gingerbread version of St. Nick’s vehicle.

6. Aisle markers. Candy canes don’t just come in a lot of different flavors; they come in a lot of sizes too! Get a couple of the biggest ones you can find and use them on either side of a hallway, an entranceway, or outside pathway.

7. Use candy canes as part of a gingerbread village. Candy canes can be used for a lot of different things when they are included in a gingerbread village; they make ideal lamp posts, trees, fences, even road borders.

8. The “Welcome Bowl”. And finally don’t forget the basic welcoming bowl of small candy canes at the office. Everyone loves the minty treat and the candy cane bowl helps establish the friendly giving spirit of the season.

That list is by no means exhaustive, and we haven’t even gotten into the many different uses of artificial candy canes and candy cane patterns! These sweet treats certainly do play a very big part in any holiday decorating scheme.
