Letting Go Of Emotional Baggage

How to recover and/or maintain a satisfactory standard of sound physical health must be one of the most important issues most adults moving towards middle age and beyond have to deal with. Perhaps not always given the same attention is the problem of achieving equally sound emotional health. These days,however, there are lots of ways of letting go of emotional baggage - and dealing with physical problems too - some of them having an excellent success rate and at the same time being quite easy to work with, and also not very time-consuming.

You can easily think of people whose whole talk is about how 'terrible' their lives are: all the things that are wrong with them healthwise, or how their credit card debts are getting beyond them, or how they can't cope with whatever it is their kids are up to at the moment, or all they have to put up with from their boss and fellow workers, or whatever.

Quite obviously, not only is their physical health not up to par, but their emotional health is at crisis point. Honestly now, can you really see their situation changing for the better? And why is that? Isn't it because, if they go on thinking about their plight in the same way and acting/behaving in the same way, they doom themselves to more of the same. That's why finding a way of letting go of emotional baggage is so important. Because what the Law of Attraction is saying is this: whatever we're thinking about with passion, with strong emotion, is what we are drawing more of into our experience, whether we want it or not.

So, no matter what the source of your current unhappiness, whether it's a physical health issue or something in the realm of emotional health - or, for that matter, financial or relationship concerns - nothing will change unless you act. And that means change to focusing on what you really want. But, in response to that, you might say something like: "But I find it so difficult to stop thinking and worrying about it all". Do you see, though, that in trying to stop worrying you're keeping your attention on the unwanted situation, with all the unpleasant feelings that go with it? And you know what the result must be: more of the same! Or, as the Genie in The Secret always says: Your wish is my command.

What, then, can you do to get free of all that you're worrying about? Well, first of all do make use of a well known process - there are many different approaches to it - it's called 'releasing'. Look under 'emotional releasing/healing/freedom etc.' in the search engines. Just take a look at some of the programmes that are available to help you move way beyond where you are at the moment, and choose one that appeals to you? Then make a firm decision to practise it.

Also, rather than fighting against or resisting those things you don't want in your experience, simply decide to put your attention on something much more pleasant. For many people, just relaxing and watching a scene in nature, a real one or even one in a film or a video, will lift their mood; or it may be putting on a beautiful piece of music - of course, the same music will not always work, you'll need to vary it; or watching a child delighting in his/her play; or reading something that you find uplifting.

Here are Rhonda Byrne's thoughts on this: "When you try to stop negative thoughts, you are focusing on what you don't want - negative thoughts - and you will attract an abundance of them. They can never disappear if you are focused on them. The "stop" part is irrelevant - the negative thoughts are your focus. It doesn’t matter if you are trying to stop negative thoughts or control them or push them away, the result is the same. Your focus is on negative thoughts, and by the law of attraction you are inviting more of them to you.” Her book, The Secret, is an exceptionally good source related to all this.
