How To Pack Properly

Categories
Home/Family

Moving to a new home can be a stressful time; making it even more so by having damaged items should be avoided at all costs. Fortunately, there are many simple things that you can do when packing to avoid damages and make relocating much smoother.

Dishes And Glassware -

When packing up your plates, bowls, cups and other dining ware, proper wrapping is essential. Never scrimp on packaging paper for these items; always err on the side of caution. It is infinitely better to use too much packaging paper rather than too little. It is okay to stack one or two fragile items together - simply make sure to wrap each set with a thick layer of high quality paper. Once wrapped, tape each set shut to ensure that the wrapping does not become removed during shipping and handling. For very fragile china, always wrap each piece individually.

Bedding -

Bedding should always be freshly washed before being packed up for relocation during Brisbane removals. After neatly folding each item, place it in a clean, sturdy container. Cover mattresses with old sheets or bedding to protect them during transport. Take individual pieces of a bed, wrap with proper packing material and place any hardware in plastic baggies; tape these baggies to the larger pieces of the bed so that they aren't misplaced.

DVDs and CDs -

If you own a large quantity of CDs or DVDs, try to package them in their original cases whenever possible. Put a layer of shredded or crushed paper at the bottom of a container, and then line the items up side by side. Do not lay CDs or DVDs flat in a packing box, as this increases the chances of them becoming damaged.

Lamps -

Always remove the light bulbs from any lamps that you need to include during your relocation. For the actual lamps themselves, pack them with bedding wherever possible. Otherwise, place them in an upright position in a tissue lined carton; always wrap delicate shades in tissue paper to prevent damage.

Microwaves -

Remove any loose pieces like shelves or trays before packing a microwave. Place tape across the door in an "X" shape to prevent breaking its glass. Use the original box if possible; otherwise, secure in a carton that has enough room to pad around the oven properly.
