This article is an attempt at reviewing Sears' fish oil - one of the most popular fish oil based supplements on the market today. As someone who has spent a lot of time studying omega 3 fatty acids and their health benefits, I think I can do a good job of reviewing this product objectively. So, if you are someone who is looking to buy good fish oil based supplements, make sure you read this article fully.
Before I start telling you about the advantages and disadvantages of Sears fish oil, you need to first understand why fish based oil is so important for your health. So, let me tell you something about fish based oil and its numerous health benefits.
Fish based oil became hugely popular around the world because of just one reason - it is rich in omega 3 fatty acids. Omega 3 fatty acids, or n-3 fatty acids as they are also called, are very good for your health. When consumed regularly, they can reduce the risks of serious health problems like cancer, cardiovascular problems, rheumatoid arthritis, allergies, neurodegenerative diseases, Crohn's disease, high blood pressure, and more. They can also boost the immune system and improve brain health. So, doctors recommend taking fish based oil capsules every day to stay in good health.
The biggest advantage of Sears' fish oil is that it contains high quality DHA and EPA. Since the company is very popular, they cannot afford to come up with a low quality product. So, the omega 3 fatty acids found in these capsules are of good quality.
The biggest disadvantage of Sears' fish oil is that it contains only 20% of DHA and nearly 40% of EPA. According to experts, it should be the other way around. The amount of DHA in a fish oil based supplement should be more than the amount of EPA for the simple reason that DHA is the most important omega 3 fatty acid required for the body. Moreover, your body has the ability to convert DHA into EPA whenever it wants. But, it cannot convert EPA or any other fatty acid into DHA. So, ideally, you should take more DHA and less EPA. This is not the case with Sears and this is a big disadvantage.
Now, let us take the price factor into consideration. A month's supply of Sears' fish oil capsules will cost you about $26. While it is not very expensive, it is certainly not cheap either. I personally use a fish oil supplement which costs me only around $16 a month. So, I can definitely say that Sears is not the cheapest fish based product available on the market right now.
Now let me tell you something about the alternatives available today. The one I use personally contains very high quality DHA and EPA extracted from hoki fish which is found only in New Zealand. Since it is found only in clear coastal waters where there are no threats of mercury contamination, it is very clean and safe to consume. The capsules I take contain DHA and EPA in a 2:1 ratio which is considered the perfect ratio by experts around the world. A month's supply of these capsules just cost me about $16.
The important lesson to be learnt here is this - the most popular product is not always the best product. The same is the case with Sears' fish oil capsules. While they are certainly good, they are not the best choice available in my opinion. So, if you are looking for a good fish oil based supplement, make sure you keep these things in mind and go for the best product.
