When going on vocation, one of the toughest and tasks is to choose the right hotel to stay at. This is especially difficult if you do not know the area where you are going on vacation or if you go there during the busiest tourist season.
Before going on vacation, no matter to which city, one must make a reservation in advance. Otherwise, when you get there, it is all too likely that there are no vacancies in suitable hotels. Planning a vacation in advance is a rule, but you do not need to invest too much effort in it.
Going to the most expensive hotel is hardly mandatory, if you are looking for good service; but on the other hand, do not forget that there are reasons why cheap hotels are cheap. Your guide for hotel prices could be Motel 6. Since a room even in that hotel is about $40 on average, anything below its price is most likely too cheap.
While you should never consider a hotel room to be completely sterile, the more expensive hotels are generally cleaner than some of the really cheap places. On vacation, you generally get what you pay for.
Here are some more suggestions about what is important when choosing a hotel.
The most important thing to have in mind is cost ~ how much can you spend per night? In many locations, less than a hundred dollars per night is a serious reason to have difficulties in finding a good room in the right hotel.
Another important consideration is breakfast. Breakfast can be a continental one, a full service, or no breakfast at all. The advantage of in-hotel breakfast is that it is easier for you in the morning to go and have breakfast in the hotel restaurant, rather than looking for food somewhere else or ordering room service. But if you are going out very early, even a light continental breakfast, not to mention the full service one, might be unnecessary.
Another issue to have in mind is a pool. If you would like to be able to use a pool, while on vacation, check where the pool is located and if it will be open while you are there because it is most likely that, for instance, an outdoor pool will not be working in winter. Also, check the working hours of the pool because if they are not convenient, it might be harder to find the appropriate time to go swimming.
Next, do not forget about the location of the hotel. For example, if you plan to go to a Disney park, you won't want to rely on rented cars to get to your destination. Rather, you will prefer to stay in a nearby hotel, or at least a hotel that is within a reasonable walking distance.
Once you think you've found the right hotel for your vacation, you should try to buy a package for your trip instead of buying the hotel and travel tickets separately.
Some companies will give discounts for vacation packages, and depending on where you're going and what time of year it is, you could save hundreds of dollars.
