Buying A Used Car On eBay

Categories
Finance/Investing by William Berg

Ebay has become one of the largest marketplaces in the world where you can buy everything from old stamps to new shoes. This is this versatility that makes eBay the ideal place to find just about everything including cars. The Motor section on eBay features a lot of different vehicles for sale and lots of deals. But just as in real life there are a lot of not so good deals on eBay as well. There are a few things you should think about before deciding to buy a car

The first thing you should do is find out a little about the seller. Does he sell a lot on eBay or is this his first sale. If the seller hasn't made any previous sales on eBay you should be especially careful. Odds are that this is just his first sale but you might have a scammer on your hands. If the seller has sold a lot before you should check his feedback rating making sure to read all negative and neutral ratings the seller got (if he got any) even if they are several pages down. Pay special attention to his feedback on other large sales. Feedback from small sales doesn't say much about how a larger transaction will turn out. Good feedback rating for other large transactions is on the other hand a good indication that he is a trustworthy seller. It can also be a good idea to Google his name to see if you can find anything else about the seller.

Knowing that the seller is trustworthy is not enough. You will also have to inspect the car you want to buy, something that can be hard to do over the internet. The key here is to make sure that you get a lot of good pictures to look at. Make sure to get pictures of every possible angle of the car outside and in, including good pictures of the engine and underside of the car. Poor, dark or blurry picture can hide defects the seller doesn't want you to see. Always ask for more pictures if you can't se the entire car on the pictures provided by the seller. Ask the seller for extra info if there is something else you want to know about the car and it is also wise to ask the seller to confirm the information he has given in his advert once more as it is easy for a seller to make a typo in the listing.

If you decide that you like the car and trust the seller you should negotiate a payment method that you feel comfortable with and that protects you if anything goes wrong. Escrow can be a good idea since buying a car usually involves a lot of money.

Happy Bidding!

eBay is a good place to find good deal on on types of vehicles including rare vehicles such as those escribed on http://www.militaryhummers.info and http://www.hummerlimousines.org.
