There Are No Small Customers!

Fact: you sell yourself to everyone. Remember, there are no
small people in your customers world.
The assistant in a small company could be the CEO's wife.
The guy who who handles email could very well own the
company. There's no exact way of knowing who you are
dealing with in this day and age of communication. Treat
everyone on a top level, even if they hold a bottom
position.
Don't change your sales approach. The very best in our
business always sell themselves to everyone, all of the
time. Let's face it, you can use all the help you can get
to make a sale. Friendly exchanges with a valued support
person could get you information that you need to make your
next sale. You could have a great first meeting, all because
you took a few minutes to acknowledge the importance of
someone, who may not usually get recognized in their
position.
On the opposite side of the sales spectrum, just about
anybody can kill a sale, dropping negatives about being
treated poorly. If you get crabby with the staff, don't
expect any royal treatment. You must always treat everyone
as if they "are" the key decision maker. Why? Because they
very well could be. Never underestimate the power of
influence. Making friends in advance, can only help you in
your quest for success in sales.
You never know when you may need a friend "inside" to push
an order, make a contact or cut a check for you. If you
have them sold with the idea that they are important to
you, well in advance, you have a better chance that they
will go the extra mile for you, when you ask for help.
