It really is a constant struggle isn’t it? Trying to do your best at your job while still being a good parent. (I’ve been there)
You get the family organised in the morning, rush off to work, wear yourself out at work, rush home, organise the family….fall into bed. Then tomorrow you get up and do it all over again.
You might well be asking……
When do I get to enjoy my kids?
When do I get to enjoy life?
When do I get to have a life?
Believe it or not, Mothers and work life balance can be said quite happily in the same sentence.
Yes it can!!
You need to work right? You want to work?
Then what’s going to give, because something has to before you run screaming off into the distance.
Have you considered this?
Are you in the right job? Is it energising you, or is it draining you?
Imagine if you could be in a job that you absolutely loved doing. A job that you looked forward to doing each day. That when you got to the end of your day you felt energised because you didn’t even feel like you had been working?
Can you imagine that? Imagine coming home happy and enthusiastic? Wouldn’t that make a huge difference to your energy levels? Wouldn’t you then be in a better state to be a parent to your kids each day?
Instead of trying to get a life outside of work, work could be part of your enjoyable life? It would be fantastic wouldn’t it?
So what do you do? How do you get to that place that seems so impossible?
First things first:
You have to work out what it is that is draining your energy levels. We are all wired differently and as such, different things stress or de-energise each person.
For example:
Are you constantly doing admin work when you are a real people person?
Or are you constantly having to relate to people, when you need time alone to get your work done?
Are the values of the company the same as your values?
Does your work environment demand rigid schedules when you much prefer to be more flexible?
If you are not operating out of your natural preferences, it is like trying to write left handed when we are right handed. We can do it, but it requires much more effort and concentration and it contributes to our stress levels.
Take notice during your day of the things that drag you down.
If your job is full of it… Start drafting a list of conditions that would be part of your ideal job and start looking!
Lets make Mothers and work life balance the new trend!
