I Hate my Job – The 5 Step Solution

Categories
Employment/Careers

I can’t even enjoy my weekends as I’m always thinking about how much I hate my job!

I can’t enjoy my holidays as when they are nearly over I realise I have to go back to work and I hate my job!

I hate my job so much it consumes my every thought!

Does this ring any bells for you?

Do you hate your job?

These are actual comments made by actual people when they are talking about their jobs.

Its such a waste of life! Don’t you agree? You are at work for such a large portion of your week. Shouldn’t it be something that you enjoy?

So what can you do short of quitting and going to live under a bridge?

I have good news! You won’t need to go live under a bridge! (unless that’s your goal in life)

The good news is you are already on your way to finding your solution!

Step one:
You’ve already done it. YAY!! You already know you hate your job! You aren’t living in denial anymore.

Step two:
Make a list of the things you hate about your job. Be honest and really think about it. What really, really irritates you everyday when you go to work or even think about going to work. This will tell you what you don’t want in a job. Go on, write it down.

Step three:
Now that you know what you don’t want, think about what it is you do want in a job! Obviously, it should be something like the opposite of what you don’t want. Again, be honest and let your mind explore ideas. Write it down.

Step four:
What are you naturally good at? What gives you pleasure? What is it that you can do that doesn’t even feel like work? Think about your past times and hobbies, what subjects you enjoyed at school.

Step five:
Try marrying up step three and four and see if anything jumps out at you that you hadn’t even considered as a viable work option and give it some thought. Continue to think about it over the coming week. Let your mind loose!!

Most people will put more thought and research into buying a new computer or a new car, and yet surprisingly, not many people put much research into who they actually are and what makes them tick. If you don’t know who you were made to be, how can you honestly expect to know what you will enjoy in a job.

Do some honest research on yourself and it won’t take you long to work out why it is that you hate your job! Then you have started the process of finding the job you love! The one you can’t wait to get out of bed for!
